eye doctor reviews in Waunakee

I like going [to] vision therapy. Now I can read books better. In softball, when I bat, the ball looks clear. I like school now that I can see things clearly. Allie had difficulty reading and writing. She was resistant to doing schoolwork. Since vision therapy, Allie has improved in her ability to read. She is now reading textbooks that a year ago I had to read out loud to her. She even chooses reading as a free time activity now! Her spelling and math have improved as well.

Vision therapy has made Aubrey more confident in herself. I can’t believe the change in her from when we first started. We can’t thank you enough for all your help! How did Vision Therapy help you? “It helps me read. It helps me do my work. It helps me do more things than I was able to do. I’m able to see better. Thanks for everything you have done for me.”

Brennan had troubles with reading and focusing at school. He also was having problems with his coordination. He has improved in his reading, piano playing, eye-hand coordination and focusing in school. We were very pleased with your services and how flexible and pleasant everyone was!!!

Not only did we see an improvement in Cole’s performance on his vision homework, we have noticed a significant improvement in his reading. Prior to starting Vision Therapy he was not reading at grade level and tested in the lowest 1% on the standardized test. He began VT in January and by May he was reading at grade level and scored at an average level on the standardized test.

Karlene had struggled so much learning to read and write. And all the skills I learned to help her dyslexic brother didn’t seem to help her. So I knew it was something else. Since vision therapy I have noticed a huge improvement in both skills; at least 1 whole grade level.

Optometric Phototherapy Success Story!! We noticed something seemed wrong with Logan’s vision and it wasn’t being found in a normal vision screening. School was very hard for him. Logan is now riding a bike, eating food much neater and negotiating stairs without difficulty. I am excited to see how the light therapy affects his ability to perform in hockey. We started two weeks before the end of the last season, and he started handling the puck, something he had not wanted to do all season. In fact, I wasn’t even going to sign him up for hockey next year, but now he is very excited to play again!! Check back next year and I will let you know how things have gone!!

Vision Therapy and the staff at New Horizons provided us with very concrete and specific ideas for how to address areas of difficulty for Marielle. We appreciated how measureable and objective the changes she made were. Vision therapy definitely improved Marielle’s abilities in reading, writing, and processing school work. Marielle is now less fatigued when reading independently. She is more willing to read independently and reading speed has improved.

Mariya was struggling in school and reading was a problem. She found it difficult to find her place on a page and look from the board to her assignments on her desk. Mariya has improved in all areas of school, but most importantly she is less moody, and we have noticed a dramatic decrease in temper tantrums. I am so grateful that Mariya has a chance at normal relationships.

I went to so many specialists…Neurologists, Eye and ENT Doctors, Psychiatrists, and no one would believe me….I would keep telling them something was wrong with my eyes and they were making me dizzy and anxious. I researched my symptoms online and found the connection between my symptoms and ocular motor dysfunction. Thanks to Dr. Valerie Frazer, I am almost back to my normal self. The other medical doctors prescribed Valium and Vitamins instead of finding the reason for my symptoms. I think anyone with dizziness, vertigo, sensory integration problems and all school aged children should be seen by a Developmental Optometrist like Dr. Valerie Frazer! I love my VISION THERAPY BROCK STRING; it has changed my life 100%.

I retired early, age 55, from my job as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, due to all the symptoms I was having. I could not move my body from upright to be on the floor with the students without getting dizzy. If I had learned about Vision Therapy while in undergraduate or graduate school, I may still be working in the field of OT. Thank you so much!!

Mitchell was having difficulty with number and letter reversals, and poor handwriting. He was unable to track while reading and having difficulty reading sentences Mitchell has improved in his school work (reading, math, handwriting and spelling). He doesn’t feel like everyone hates him anymore-so I know he has improved in areas of self-esteem and social interaction.

Vision Therapy has helped by making reading a lot more ‘fun’ and faster. My headaches have gone away and I would tell kids to come here.

Nate was a middle school student in the Waunakee School District and was recommended for a Vision Evaluation. He was examined by Dr. Frazer on March 10, 2011. He had frequent, almost daily headaches associated with school that had been getting worse over the past months. He was diagnosed with eye teaming, focusing and tracking difficulties. His problems were creating visual fatigue and resulting in headaches and contributing to difficulty with reading fluency

When our son started the program he would stand up, tilt his head, and wiggle back and forth when trying to read. After completing vision therapy, he is no longer frustrated with reading; he has moved up six reading levels, and he has increased his reading stamina. It’s great to see him building his self-confidence and no longer comparing himself to others. He now has a love for books and reading. Lastly, his handwriting improved from words with no spacing to spacing and being able to write more than one sentence.

We chose New Horizons because we felt so comfortable with the personnel here. The long drive here has been well worth it just so Tabitha can have the therapy she needs. There has been a huge difference in Tabitha’s vision. She used to have difficulty focusing and needed glasses at the beginning. After treatment she no longer needs glasses. While she used to struggle with schoolwork she now excels. She also used to suffer from car sickness but that has lessened quite a bit. Everyone at New Horizons was so kind and understanding, it makes a difference to us. I would recommend New Horizons to anyone who needs vision therapy.

Initially it was Stewart mentioning double vision during an annual eye exam that gave us reason to be concerned. Our primary care Optometrist mentioned Vision Therapy as a possible treatment option. After reading Dr. Frazer’s pamphlets describing symptoms we realized that everything defined Stewart (missing words and or lines, loss of place on pages, letter reversals, and poor handwriting). We knew he wasn’t doing as well in school as he could be.  The first change I noticed was Stewart became more spacially aware. Not only did he “back off” from others’ personal space, but when we were in large crowds he realized when he was drifting away from our group. In the past he would have continued to drift. Stewart’s daily spelling and handwriting have improved greatly, and his math grade is higher this year.

I am anxious to see Stewart’s first report card after finishing his therapy sessions. This year’s teacher hasn’t seen nearly as much distractibility as the last couple of teachers saw. His current math grade is higher than it was all last year. He even seems to be having more success with his piano lessons!!

Vision therapy helped me a lot. For example, it’s easier to read, the letters don’t blur as much and I don’t get as many headaches, and my writing has gotten much better. Taji had blurred vision while reading, difficulty spelling, and difficulty reading out loud fluently. Since vision therapy, spelling has improved as has fluency. She no longer complains of blurred vision.

Ben was in the second grade when the school approached us to suggest ADD/ADHD and/or special education issues. We started testing in school and privately.  All the testing showed that Ben had trouble with visual processing.

The psychologist recommended vision therapy.  Ben was tested.  We discovered that he needed bifocals and that his eye fatigued a lot when doing chalk board work and reading tasks.  Ben has done amazingly well with vision therapy.  After five months, his reading abilities have improved.  He is now reading at grade level.

Ben has really enjoyed the vision therapy appointments, as well as the homework.  I believe it works because it integrates the whole body.  I have recommended vision therapy to some of the parents at the school where I work.  Their kids are also having success.

I am very grateful for everything the vision therapy team has done for Ben and others.  The homework was fun since it was varied, and often addressed different activities.  Thanks!

Mari-Elizabeth, prior to vision therapy, had low self-esteem, didn't want to read, and couldn't write a sentence with more than one word spelled correctly.  She had to search around the classroom for B's and D's to know how to write them correctly. She would put her shoes on the wrong feet.  Often, she'd read and completely miss two or three paragraphs.

I asked the school if they could help me determine what type of problem my child was experiencing.  I would have her eyes examined twice per year.  I purchased supplemental work to help her understand. I asked the teacher questions about things she noticed with my child in class.  I prayed a lot.  I asked anyone I thought could help me if they knew any doctor who could help me help my child with dyslexia.

Since vision therapy, she now enjoys reading.  She has much more confidence in herself.  She's happy! She spells much better.  She's now all that we knew she was, but now she really knows and feels like it too.  She's simply phenomenal.  You created a miracle for us.

Vision therapy has really helped Codey a lot. He now has a more positive attitude, and much better reading and handwriting grades. Before we started vision therapy, we had tried everything, “Hooked on Phonics”, tutors, summer school, nothing seemed to help. It was to the point where we just thought he was lazy and wouldn't try. Finally, we had his eyes checked by a developmental optometrist. Finally, everything started making sense: the poor attitude, bad grades, etc. Now, 34 weeks of vision therapy later, there has been great improvement. Better grades, no headaches when he comes home from school, no fighting to do homework, and a great positive attitude.

"I believe that my son would be in special education if it were not for vision therapy.

I first noticed problems when my son was not reading.  He had a difficult time comprehending printed writing and his eye tracking was poor.  Vision therapy gave him the tools to know what to do with print. It gave him the confidence to be successful in school and his social skills are much improved, both with his peers and adults.  He now reads two to three grades above his standard.

As an educator, vision is now my first thought.  When I see a child who is motivated to learn but can't read, I think that vision acuity may not be the only problem.  I look for decreased letter tracking or sequencing of letters or complaints of words moving on pages.  Many times these are the children who get missed.  Vision problems need to be ruled out before considering an education or academic problem."
