Welcome to New Horizons Vision Therapy Center! We are a specialized optometric practice dedicated to providing the highest quality developmental and functional vision care from infancy through adulthood in a friendly, comfortable, and professional atmosphere. Our office specializes in vision therapy, developmental vision, and neuro-optometric rehabilitation. We treat patients with functional vision problems that affect learning, work, behavior, and quality of life. In addition to serving our patients, we strive to educate the public, parents, teachers, and other healthcare professionals about functional and development vision.

Learning Related Vision Problems

Often children who are struggling with learning will also have difficulty with vision information processing or perception. 

Strabismus / Amblyopia
(Lazy Eye)

 Amblyopia typically develops in early childhood, usually before the age of 7, and if left untreated, it can persist into adulthood.

Headaches / Migraines / Eyestrain

Our carefully curated selection of lenses and glasses is designed to combat headache and migraine symptoms by filtering out harmful light frequencies, reducing glare, and minimizing visual strain.

Brain Injury / Concussion

Post-Trauma Vision Syndrome (PTVS) is a collection of visual signs and symptoms that are related to dysfunctions with the dorsal or ambient visual pathway.

Dr. Valerie L. Frazer, O.D., FCOVD

Optometrist

Before entering optometry school, Dr. Valerie Frazer received her BA in human physiology from Southern Illinois University with additional studies in the areas of psychology and literature. After graduating from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. Frazer moved to Wisconsin to complete a yearlong residency with a concentration in vision therapy and vision development. Two years later, she achieved her board certification from the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) in these same areas.

Not only did we see an improvement in Cole’s performance on his vision homework, we have noticed a significant improvement in his reading. Prior to starting Vision Therapy he was not reading at grade level and tested in the lowest 1% on the standardized test. He began VT in January and by May he was reading at grade level and scored at an average level on the standardized test.

Karlene had struggled so much learning to read and write. And all the skills I learned to help her dyslexic brother didn’t seem to help her. So I knew it was something else. Since vision therapy I have noticed a huge improvement in both skills; at least 1 whole grade level.

Optometric Phototherapy Success Story!! We noticed something seemed wrong with Logan’s vision and it wasn’t being found in a normal vision screening. School was very hard for him. Logan is now riding a bike, eating food much neater and negotiating stairs without difficulty. I am excited to see how the light therapy affects his ability to perform in hockey. We started two weeks before the end of the last season, and he started handling the puck, something he had not wanted to do all season. In fact, I wasn’t even going to sign him up for hockey next year, but now he is very excited to play again!! Check back next year and I will let you know how things have gone!!

Vision Therapy and the staff at New Horizons provided us with very concrete and specific ideas for how to address areas of difficulty for Marielle. We appreciated how measureable and objective the changes she made were. Vision therapy definitely improved Marielle’s abilities in reading, writing, and processing school work. Marielle is now less fatigued when reading independently. She is more willing to read independently and reading speed has improved.
